We’re sure you’ll agree: The new 2023 Toyota 4Runner comes out on top in this comparison, offering more capability and convenience than the all-new 2023 Honda Pilot. The Toyota 4Runner musters up a massive 278 pound-feet of maximum available torque, and its 2WD trims can tow up to 5,000 pounds as easily as its 4WD trims can — even starting with the base (read: most affordable) trim. In comparison, the Honda Pilot 2WD can only tow 3,500 pounds, meaning you’ll have to upgrade to one of the Honda Pilot 4WD trims to tow up to 5,000 pounds. Both models feature plenty of features for safety and driver assistance, including a standard Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and an available Surround-View Camera System (which can be quite handy when towing). However, we’d like to take you inside the cabin to show you some of the ways in which the Toyota 4Runner takes the lead. With an available 15-speaker JBL® Sound System with amplifier and subwoofer, you’ll have a better listening experience inside the Toyota 4Runner than you would in the Honda Pilot. Standard heated door mirrors will make frosty mornings a little less stressful when you’re running late for work, and a standard power rear liftgate window makes it easy to toss those final pieces of gear in the back of your SUV without having to open the door.

(Toyota 4Runner) Never tow beyond a vehicle’s published towing capacities. Before towing, confirm your vehicle and trailer are compatible, hooked up and loaded properly and that you have any necessary additional equipment. The maximum you can tow depends on base curb weight plus the total weight of any cargo, occupants, and added vehicle equipment. Installation of a tow hitch receiver or other accessories located near the rear bumper may require disabling or removing the kick sensor, and the sensor operation setting in your vehicle should be turned off. Follow all instructions in your Owner’s Manual.

(Honda Pilot) Maximum towing capacity for AWD trims is 5,000 lbs. Maximum towing capacity for 2WD trims is 3,500 lbs. Towing requires accessory towing equipment. Please see your Honda dealer for details.
